Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) Training

The Brain Injury Association of New Jersey is offering a training program geared toward preparing for the Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) examination. This training will be delivered in a two day workshop on November 1, 2010, from 8:30am-3:00pm and November 15, 2010, from 8:30am-1:00pm.  Students must attend the entire session. The workshop will include study materials and an interactive workshop. The National Written Examination will be given following the second day of training, November 15, from 2:00pm-4:00pm.  The training and testing will both take place at the PSE&G's Training and Development Center in Edison, New Jersey (Middlesex County).

The CBIS training and examination is part of the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists (ACBIS) which offers a voluntary national certification program for both entry-level staff and experienced professionals working in brain injury services. ACBIS provides staff and professionals the opportunity to learn important information about brain injury, to demonstrate their learning in a written examination, and to earn a nationally recognized credential.  For more information about ACBIS, visit their website at www.acbis.pro

Certification is based on a comprehensive training manual, The Essential Brain Injury Guide, that covers the following topics:

  • Incidence and epidemiology of brain injury
  • Continuum of services
  • Brain anatomy and brain-behavior relationships
  • Functional impact of brain injury
  • Effective treatment approaches
  • Children and adolescents with brain injury
  • Health and medical management
  • Family issues
  • Legal and ethical issues

Certification is not restricted to any one profession or discipline. Rather, it is intended for anyone who delivers services specific to brain injury.

The registration fee is $375, which includes The Essential Brain Injury Guide, materials, instructor time, continental breakfast, lunch and the ACBIS certification fee.

Join us for this comprehensive training, and gain your national certification in Brain Injury, with support through the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey.
