Individual Awareness

You don’t have to be an organization to participate in Brain Injury Awareness Month.  There are many ways that an individual can do his or her part to raise awareness during March, and throughout the entire year.  Here are just a few ideas:

Display a Brain Injury Awareness magnet on your car

These are available through Brain Injury Association of NJ.  Visit our Awareness Magnet page to find out how to order.

Wear a green BIAA “Mind Matters” wristband (and don’t miss an opportunity to explain what it symbolizes when others ask)

These are available through Brain Injury Association of America.  Visit www.biausa.org to order.

Deliver a packet of Brain Injury Association of New Jersey literature to you local library, doctors’ offices, local schools, or community center

Call the Brain Injury Association of NJ at 732-745-0200 and speak to an Information and Resource Specialist if you are interested in delivering literature in your community.  We will help you determine which brochures or posters might be appropriate and mail them to you.

Write letters

There are often reasons to write.  For example, you could write a letter to the editor of your local paper or favorite magazine to share your own story; or to your legislative representatives in support of policies that prevent brain injury and enhance care and services for people affected by brain injury; or to your friends encouraging them to sign up for BIANJ E-news or Legislative Network.

Increase your own awareness by reading a book on brain injury

The Brain Injury Association of New Jersey has a Browse and Borrow Library from which anyone may borrow.  Visit our Library page to view our library catalog, or call 732-745-0200 and speak to an Information and Resource Specialist to request a catalog.
