Outreach to Hospitals, Rehabs, Trauma Centers and Other Organizations
Hospital Outreach
Through our hospital outreach program, Association staff aim to visit and have in-person meetings with staff from all of the 123 hospitals in New Jersey. We hope to raise awareness of brain injury among hospital personnel to ensure that those affected by brain injury receive information about brain injury services and the Association before being discharged from hospitals. Our staff regularly conduct in-services with staff from all hospital departments—social work, nursing, case management, emergency, physical and occupational therapy departments, and more.
Trauma Centers and Brain Injury Rehabilitation Facilities
The Association continuously strives to maintain relationships with all the trauma centers and brain injury rehabs throughout our state. We regularly schedule visits and provide materials to these facilities.
- Federally Funded/Qualified Health & Migrant Centers
- County Offices for the Disabled
- Independent Living Centers
As an extension of our Hospital Outreach Program, the Association began outreaching in 2006 to the County Offices for the Disabled, the Independent Living Centers for people with disabilities, and the Federally Funded / Qualified health & Migrant Centers that provide comprehensive community-based primary health care to the most impoverished citizens in the state.
Veterans Affairs Agencies
The most recent extension of Association outreach is to the Veterans Affairs Agencies around the state. Since brain injury has become the signature wound of the War in Iraq and Afghanistan, we recognize the need to deliver information and materials to servicemen and women, and raise awareness of brain injury among the VA personnel serving them.
Allied Health & Human Service Professionals
The Association makes several efforts to raise awareness among those who work with people with brain injury. Scholarships are provided each year for health and human service professionals to attend our Annual Seminar, and invitations are distributed to a wide variety of agencies each year for our Regional Seminars.
