Seminar Speakers

William A.B. Ditto, MSW, LSW

Mr. Ditto is the Director of the Division of Disability Services at the New Jersey Department of Human Services, a position he has held since 1997. He has over 33 years of experience in designing and administering public human services. Mr. Ditto is the past President of the National Association of State Head Injury Administrators.

George Carnevale, PhD

Dr. Carnevale is a clinical neuropsychologist in private practice in Northern New Jersey and at Rehabilitation Specialists, a community-based provider of neuro-rehabilitation services. He has worked clinically with people who have sustained brain injuries and their families for over twenty years, and is a consultant to the Department of Defense on the development of new therapeutic approaches for veterans with TBI and PTSD.

Dr. Carnevale is on the editorial board of the Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation. He is a consultant to hospital trauma centers, rehabilitation facilities and long term care providers of medical services to persons with TBI. He is an Assistant Adjunct Professor at New York University. Dr. Carnevale lectures extensively and has published in the areas of neuropsychological assessment, behavioral approaches to persons with neurologic injury, cognitive rehabilitation, forensic neuropsychology, posttraumatic stress disorder and mild traumatic brain injury among military veterans.

Seminar Objectives 

  • Provide an overview of brain injury, including definition, symptoms, and prevalence in New Jersey and nationally.
  • Identify state funded programs and services specifically for individuals with brain injuries.
  • Provide resource materials to better understand brain injury and available sources of service and support.
  • Identify critical variables in the identification of mild TBI and PTSD in the returning veteran population.
  • Discuss and understand the research and clinical phenomenon of co-occurring mild TBI and PTSD.
  • Discuss and understand the research support for prolonged adjustment difficulties for veterans with mild TBI and PTSD.
  • Identify effective treatment approaches based on the appropriate diagnosis of mild TBI and PTSD.
