“A Legacy of Hope:  Celebrating Survivors and Their Stories”

2025 Honorees

Ceilie Reynolds

5-Year Survivor

Congratulations to 27-year-old Ceilie Reynolds  on earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Monmouth University, marking a major milestone in her recovery.

On the first day of her fall semester in September 2019, Ceilie’s life was irrevocably altered by a motor vehicle accident. Ceilie suffered catastrophic injuries and was in a coma for three months after hitting a bridge overpass at 65 mph. After emerging from the coma, she began the arduous journey of recovery. That accident set the course for the next two years of Ceilie’s life, a period filled with multiple surgeries, intense physical therapy, and an unwavering determination to rebuild. Ceilie had to relearn everything—from basic tasks to adjusting to life as someone who is legally blind.

Along the way, Ceilie received invaluable support from organizations like the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey, who helped her and her family through this incredibly challenging time.

Despite challenges, Ceilie remains determined to overcome each obstacle. She continues to find new ways to give back, joining charitable organizations and sharing her story to inspire others. Ceilie participates with the Human Library, offering guidance to brain injury support groups, and speaking to high school students about perseverance.

Every day is a challenge for Ceilie, whether it’s setting timers to stay on track, navigating when furniture is moved in her home, or maneuvering through a busy parking lot on campus.  As she continues to work with specialists to regain her sight and plans for future surgeries, Ceilie remains focused on her next steps and helping people, both physically and emotionally.

For Ceilie, it’s not the event that defines her, but her response to it. She lives by the belief that what matters most is not what happens to you, but how you choose to move forward.
