John Indyk
Distinguished Champion of Leadership Award
John Indyk is being honored as the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey’s 2026 Distinguished Champion of Leadership Award recipient in recognition of his extraordinary and lasting service to the organization and the broader brain injury community.
John began his service on the BIANJ Board of Trustees in October 2009 and is now the longest-serving board member in the organization’s history. He previously served as Board Chair from 2001 to 2003, during a transformative period for BIANJ. Under his leadership, the New Jersey Traumatic Brain Injury Fund was enacted, and BIANJ launched its inaugural Walk for Thought, Cycle for Safety fundraiser, now known as the annual Walk for Brain Injury Awareness.
Professionally, John serves as Vice President of the Health Care Association of New Jersey (HCANJ), the state’s oldest and largest trade association representing long-term care providers. As HCANJ’s lead government affairs agent, he advocates before the New Jersey State House and the state’s congressional delegation. Prior to joining HCANJ in 2006, John spent nearly 14 years as a Senior Vice President with The Marcus Group, representing a wide range of healthcare and public policy interests. Through his government affairs work representing New Jersey’s trauma hospitals, John became deeply connected to BIANJ and played a key role in successfully opposing efforts to reduce auto insurance personal injury protection benefits for catastrophic injuries, including traumatic brain injury.
John earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Rutgers University and was an undergraduate associate at the Eagleton Institute of Politics. In 2026, John and his wife, Linda, celebrate 40 years of marriage. They are proud parents of two grown children and grandparents to two granddaughters. Outside of work, John enjoys sailing and spending time with his family.
