Wallace Kyle

Wally has a richly diverse professional background that includes 15 years in the publishing industry with Time Warner. Before joining the financial industry, he was also a small business owner, artist, and lobsterman. He joined Smith Barney in 1999 as a Financial Advisor. In 2012, he joined UBS, where he offers financial planning and portfolio management services to his clients, who consist of multigenerational families, successful business executives and retired executives. His keen analytical skills and talent for listening and connecting with people have all contributed to Wally’s success as a Wealth Manager.

Wally dedicated himself to altering the stigma associated with brain injuries and works with other individuals who share his interest. He is the former Chairman of the Board at the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey.

Wally attended Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in art in 1977. Wally is married, has two daughters and a son, and is devoted to his family, who enjoy a healthy lifestyle that involves regular exercise, sports and adventure on family vacations.

Lisa Astorino

Lisa Astorino is a Senior Director at UBS. She is currently a Product Manager, managing Wealth Management initiatives and also the Initiative Manager for the rollout of a new Data Strategy. Lisa joined UBS in August, 2010. She has held many different roles within UBS including Finance Business Manager in Wealth Management Technology, Risk Manager and Chief of Staff roles throughout the organization. In addition, she is a mentor for junior staff and co-chair for the Family Connections Network. She is a graduate of Pace University and is also a CPA. In her spare time, she enjoys kickboxing, yoga, cooking, concerts and travelling. She is currently studying for her Sommelier license. She resides in New Jersey.

Richard A. Sackin, CPA

Richard Sackin, Senior Tax Partner at EisnerAmper, LLP, has more than 30 years of experience in the fields of accounting and taxation, with specialties in state, local and international taxation. He holds a BA in Accounting from Upsala College. Sackin co-authored the New Jersey Tax Handbook and speaks before various groups on international taxation. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants. Sackin is also an active member, and Treasurer, of the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey’s Board of Trustees.

Brian D. Greenwald, MD

Brian D. Greenwald, M.D. is the Medical Director of Rehabilitation Specialists. He is the Associate Fellowship Director for JFK Johnson’s Brain Injury Medicine fellowship. Dr. Greenwald is a Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine.

Dr. Greenwald completed his residency training in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. He was fellowship-trained in brain injury rehabilitation at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is board certified in both Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Brain Injury Medicine.

Dr. Greenwald has served on the Board of Trustees for the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey since 2002 and is currently the Vice President. Dr. Greenwald has been the recipient of multiple awards for his clinical work, research and teaching. Since 2009 he has recognized by his peers through the Castle Connolly surveys as one of the Top Doctors in the New York Metro Area. Dr. Greenwald has been extensively published in both peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in the area of brain injury rehabilitation. Currently he is involved in research studies to improve the care of brain injury survivors.

Richard S. Anderson

Richard is disabled due to sustaining a TBI in 2004. However, he is currently the Chair of the Voices Advancing the Brain Injury Community. He is a strong advocate for brain injury awareness and pseudobulbar effect (PBA).

Prior to the TBI, Richard had received a BS degree while attending school at night and was a Bureau Director of the Finance Office of the Human Resource Administration of the City of New York.

George Avirappattu, PhD

Dr. George Avirappattu is a professor at Kean University specializing in applied mathematics. His teaching and research explore the dynamic intersection of mathematics, statistics, and computing. In recent years, he has mentored several students from various New Jersey colleges as budding data scientists, guiding them through the foundations of analytical thinking and real-world problem-solving.
Motivated by personal experience—having a family member with a severe traumatic brain injury—Dr. Avirappattu maintains a keen interest in emerging developments in artificial intelligence that may benefit individuals affected by brain injuries.

Kate Bernard

Kate Bernard is a leader in the field of brain injury rehabilitation, currently serving as the Administrative Director for the Center for Brain Injuries at Hackensack Meridian Health’s JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute. With a career spanning over two decades, she has dedicated her work to enhancing the lives of individuals affected by brain injuries through clinical innovation, program development, and patient-centered care.

At the JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute Kate oversees the daily operations of the brain injury continuum, including the  acute and subacute rehabilitation units as well as  the outpatient cognitive program. Prior to her current role, Kate served as the Director of Case Management at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation for over a decade.  There, she honed her expertise in strategic leadership, patient outcomes, and complex case management, with a specialization in caring for patients with Disorders of Consciousness.

Her commitment to the field of brain injury extends to shaping national standards of care. She served as a member of the CARF International Standards Advisory Committee, where her input led to the creation of 24 new specialty program standards for Disorders of Consciousness. She has presented at national conferences, sharing her expertise on topics such as enhancing patient care and improving team satisfaction in complex rehabilitation settings.

Kate holds a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University and is a Licensed Social Worker and a Certified Case Manager.

Cynthia Boyer, PhD

Cynthia L. Boyer, PhD, is a clinical psychologist with more than 30 years experience in neurorehabilitation. Her professional career has focused on neuropsychological evaluation, psychological treatment, and cognitive rehabilitation of individuals with acquired and degenerative brain injuries and developmental disabilities. Dr. Boyer earned a BA in psychology at the University of Pennsylvania and a MA and PhD in clinical psychology at the University of Delaware. An accomplished clinician, Dr. Boyer also has a strong background in administration, strategic planning, program development and clinical quality. She served as Executive Director of Brain Injury Services and Vice President of Quality for Bancroft.

Currently, Dr. Boyer serves as Chief Clinical Officer for Hope Trust, a technology based trust company serving the special needs community and provides neuropsychological consultation at Assurance Behavioral HealthCare.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Boyer holds faculty positions at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and Wiedner University and is a trainer for the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists (ACBIS). She serves on the Board of the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey and is a medical rehabilitation surveyor for the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Virgilio Caraballo

Virgilio has dedicated his career to working with individuals with developmental disabilities, mental illness, and brain injury. During his career he has garnered extensive experience in residential care, outpatient treatment and vocational supports.

Virgilio started his career with Rehabilitation Specialists over twenty years ago and then sought other experiences within the industry. After his return to Rehabilitation Specialists Virgilio held many positions within the organization, culminating in his current role as President & CEO.

In addition to his role at Rehabilitation Specialists, he serves on the Board of Trustees for the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey, and is also a member of Brain Injury Alliance’s Advocacy and Public Affairs (APA) Committee, chairs the subcommittee on Community Affairs of the APA committee, and was first appointed by Governor Jon S. Corzine to the New Jersey Advisory Council on Traumatic Brain Injury in 2009 and has remained on the council since.
